narukoOn March 31st 2006, Furukawa city and six towns, Matsuyama town Sanbongi town, Kashimadai town, Iwadeyama town, Naruko town and Tajiri town, combine into the newborn Osaki city.

Osaki city is located at the north west of Miyagi prefecture, east of Toda Gun, Tome city, east of Yamagata prefecture and Akita prefecture, north of Kurokawa Gun and Kami Gun, and south of Kurihara city.

Thank to the rich flow of Eaigawa and Naruse rivers, the "Osaki cultivated soil" is wide and fertile. It is the rice field for two well-known brands, "Sasanishiki" and "Hitomebore."

Osaki district, including Osaki city, was originally the area under the control of Osaki family of Oshu in the Middle Ages. Nowadays, expressions such as "Osaki district," "Osaki plain," "Osaki cultivated soil" remain in our daily life. It is a familiar name for us. When the former city and six towns combine, "Osaki City" was chosen as the new city name since it is the most suitable name to show our common source of historical and cultural backgrounds.

With Tohoku Shinkansen, Tohoku Expressway, Tohoku Line, Rikuu East Line, Route 4, the city is equipped with good traffic network. Besides, it has natural resources, for example, national park in Kurikoma mountain area, Eaigawa and Naruse rivers, Kabukurinuma wetland registered under the Ramsar Agreement, the rare fish species of Shinaimotsugo, and the beautiful scene of 420000 sun flowers in Sanbongi. It also has many tourist attractions such as Naruko hot spring, the tradition Naruko kokeshi and bamboo arts, sake makers, etc. In addition, it has advance research institutes in agriculture and animal science, core medical treatment facility and user-friendly medical system.
