Recycle Design Workshop

Opened since 1997, it is a renewed warehouse near Odaegawa river. There are exhibitions about environment and recycling, as well as facilities for making cloth and wooden art works made by junk and waste. It also runs various classrooms.

Yoshino Sakuzo Memorial Hall

It is the museum to honor Dr. Sakuzou Yoshino, who is born in Furukawa and known as the pioneer of Taisho democracy. The exhibition shows his personality and achievement. It is a place to think about the future of Japan and the world. In front of the museum, there is a stone monument.

Shounkaku

It is a big Japanese building next to Arao Park. Probably the best Japanese garden in North Miyagi. When you enter the garden, you will see the Japanese tea-ceremony house "Ryukaan” as well as other rooms for study.

Kejonuma

Located in the north of Miyagi, it is one of the best scenery sites in the city. With 4km of waterline, the swamp is surrounded by nature. It has a tragic love story of a young traveler and a beautiful woman. It brings mysterious scenes to visitors all round the year. In winter swans from Siberia stop by, showing us their elegance.

Kejonuma ancient village

The large ancient village has five different zones, such as play zone, historic zone. The most popular zone is the zone of experience, which has rock house and high deck warehouse. Please visit and try the life of ancient people.* There is an area for Imonikai and barbecue.


Kiyotaki Fudo no Taki

Geographically, there are many waterfalls in Furukawa area. There are 48 waterfalls in this area. There are two waterfalls facing each other to the center of Fudoson temple surrounded by cedar trees, which are called the man waterfall and the woman waterfall. The water falling distance of them is only about 1m, but the water flow is always maintained without being influenced by change of weather. The name of the place Kiyotaki is originated from the story that in 1715, Sendai feudal lord Yoshimura visited this area. He saw this beautiful spring of water and hence called this place “clear waterfall” (Kiyotaki).

A famous place for cherry blossoms.
In April, it is the season for cherry blossoms, and in September the season for amaryllis. They attract visitors from inside and outside the city.

Another famous place for cherry blossoms in the city. In the middle of April, some 450 sakura trees will welcome hanami visitors. Sakura matsuri is also held during the season.

Michinoku Fukukawa Food Hall “Kamuro”

Built from the remains of Odaebashi, Hashihei sake shop opened in 1790. Now it becomes “Kamuro,” a commercial facility opened in June 5th 2005 to make good use of historical resource. The renewed facility is from a sake shop, which is an attractive place mixed with old and new elements. With a wide variety of restaurants with the theme of Osaki “food,” it aims at bringing people, thing and information together.

Bringing energy to our city
This project is based on the local activation program by the former Furukawa city. It includes two third sector corporations, the “Kamuro” business and the “Aqua Light Daimachi” compound commercial facility under construction. To set up commercial facilities in Yokocho and Daimachi district is to bring more people and energy to Nanokamachi and nearby shopping streets.

Meeting place for food, history and culture
In "Kamuro," there are not only commercial activities but also free market, traditional matsuri, sponsored events etc. These events are held throughout the year for citizen to participate and enjoy. Besides, it provides space for cultural facility to exhibit the history of Hashihei sake shop, Osaki product showroom, challenge shop for new business and citizen activities to share and collect information. Name: Plaza for starting a business
Content: A support project for starting a business. Shops with reasonable rent are available for new business and in order to fill in empty shops by ambitious young people. The best way to learn the know-how of business is to practice.

Cultural facility
Name: Furukawa Kurashi Hall
Content: 80 of 800 historical tools and goods from the Hashihei sake shop are selected to show the life of Osaki in the past. It has two themes, life in the old days and the old account room.

Exchange space
Name: Terakoya Hall
Content: Meeting rooms for small meetings to seminar (maximum 50 persons) are available at a reasonable price.

Name: Terakoya Private School
Content: It is aimed at developing the curiosity of children. As a theme park for school kids after school, it is a place to learn by playing with familiar materials and local supports.

Hall of local products
Name: Osaku “Ume” Market
Content: With old and new themes, it has shops selling local products and food stalls with original menu. “Ume” is for “cheap,” “fun,” and “tasty.” Please visit the hall experience by yourself.

5 mins. from Furukawa Interchange, Tohoku Expressway.
Two car parks: "Nanoka Central Parking" and "Nagasawa Parking" in Nanokamachi shopping street. The car park in City Hall is also opened for public on Saturday, Sunday and holidays.

By taxi: 3 mins.
On foot: 20 mins.
By bus: Take the bus to "Nanokamachi" and get off at Nanokamach bus stop, 3 mins. walk

Kamuro
